A master's job is
never done, it lives on through the ages.
Worshipful Brother Blakely is the only Past Master in Clovis Lodge who never had his picture taken. In his term of office at Clovis Lodge during the war, he served back to back years as Master of the Lodge. An effort that must have seemed like a monumental task at the time.
In January of 1918, the Grand Master of Mason's in California had asked for donations for a war fund to be used as the Grand Master saw fit. In February the members of Clovis Lodge had collected and sent $105.50 to the Grand Master, a sum of humongous proportions at the time.
The Lodge again voted to further the war effort by buying another $100.00 of United States Thrift Stamps. The next month they were again buying more bonds, this time in the amount of $500.00, also in this same meeting, Brother G. J. Tyler was elected Junior Warden of Clovis Lodge.
In April the Lodge voted to get a new "fireproof" safe to keep all of the records and important papers in, so as to not have the problem as before in 1912, total cost to the Lodge of $95.00 which included shipping.
In the summer of this year the Lodge received a communication from the Grand Lodge of California asking us to join the United States Government in conserving the food supply in order that they may send plenty of food over to Europe to feed our weary soldiers.
In the winter of 1918, an influenza bug hit the valley and was so severe that there were two months when there were not enough members present to have the monthly stated meeting. The months of November and January were extremely bad for the illness. |
